Givenchy Couture - Pt. 2

I have missed most of the men fashion shows and I'm still catching up on all the articles regarding the Couture-shows for spring 2011. But without seeing anything else from the other designers, I already know Givenchy will be my favorite, once again! (and I don't even like pastels btw.)

Givenchy Couture

If there is one haute couture-collection I look forward to every six months, it must be Givenchy's. I would love to see the dresses up close, since the details must be stunning! The dresses remind me of Schiaparelli's skeleton dress, Martin Margiela-jackets and Alexander McQueen's last collection. And even though I'm quite minimalistic when it comes to my outfits, I absolutely wouldn't mind having one of these amazing and elaborate pieces hanging in my closet...

Check my sister's blog for her post on Chanel's show.

Voici Paris Haute Couture - exhibit Den Haag

During our weekend in Den Haag, by accident I discovered that there was an exhibit about haute couture in the local museum, so I made my boyfriend promise that he would take me to Voici Paris Haute Couture the next day. It was amazing; the first room we entered, presented Chanel's SS09 pieces. The room after that Worth, then Paul Poiret, Vionnet and vintage Chanel, the room after that Dior, Balenciaga and Givenchy -the dress from Breakfast at Tiffany's!-and next Jean Paul Gaultier and Armani Privé.... It truly was amazing and I was in complete awe of the amount of detail in those garments.

One of my favorite fashion exhibits ever, and definitely a must-see ...

Chanel Le Vernis - part II

Remember the Chanel nail polish I pre-ordered before / monday? Saturday I was visiting an Haute Couture-exposition, looking at some amazing Gabrielle Chanel-designs, when I got a call from the store; my order had arrived.

Today I picked up the two nail polishes and both pastel colors look stunning. The sales assistant did tell me that the Pop-up collection arrived in selected stores on Saturday and the few products of the collection sold out immediately, only moments after they put it on the display stand. So my advice; hurry up!

Later I will upload the pictures I took at the exhibit; Vintage Chanel, Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy, Worth, Paul Poiret, Vionnet and more recent haute couture pieces by Jean Paul Gaultier and Elie Saab... I went mad.

Givenchy Couture

After last fall, I had high hopes for Givenchy couture show and judging from these pictures the pieces were stunning as ever. Just like Lagerfeld, Riccardo Tisci chose to cover some items in bright colored sequins, and he also continued the geometrical prints of his Spring/Summer 2010 collection. I love it. Plus, I'm sucker for anything cape'y.

My all-time favorite Givenchy couture-piece still is this piece below, though. I'm not sure if I ever want to get married, but if I do, this dress will do just fine. (Fall 2009)

Chanel Couture

Oh my. I just came across these highlights pictures of the Chanel couture show: Amazing, even if I am not a fan of pastel and peachy colors (on me that is). I am crazy about silver though!

The Telegraph puts my first thoughts into words: "There was not a Little Black Dress to be seen – and this from the house founded by “Coco” Chanel who invented the LBD, nearly 100 years ago."
All those lush silver embroideries remind me of 17th century fashion. Karl Lagerfeld himself -too- described the collection as 'neon-baroque'. The Haute Couture team must have had there hands full with this one. One can only admire their work, and the house of Chanel.

I love those big two-toned hairdo's btw.

Check out Lagerfeld's matching gloves and tie!

Oh, and Suzy Menkes is right on Dior's Couture line, in my opinion. But it is Haute Couture, and therefor pre-1950 by definition maybe? (Since ready-to-wear and standardization took over at that time) Anyhow, I don't mind, I'ld love any full crinoline'sque skirt any day.

Note to self: Time for a change, stop your constant blogging on Dior and Chanel.
