Missoni Fashion Film

In honor of my beloved thesis:
The whole Missoni family stars in their brand's latest film -Yes, founders Rosita and Ottavio Missoni included- which reminds me of French poetic realism and Bunuel's surrealism. It makes one look forward to fall. Nice wigs, too.


PS. I'm going to try and do my best and post more updates here. Maybe actually bringing my mac with me to our 'new home' instead of leaving it at 'my old place' might help. This weekend, I promise.

Givenchy Couture

If there is one haute couture-collection I look forward to every six months, it must be Givenchy's. I would love to see the dresses up close, since the details must be stunning! The dresses remind me of Schiaparelli's skeleton dress, Martin Margiela-jackets and Alexander McQueen's last collection. And even though I'm quite minimalistic when it comes to my outfits, I absolutely wouldn't mind having one of these amazing and elaborate pieces hanging in my closet...

Miu Miu

I still want want want one of those purple dresses!






What a crazy weekend this was! I graduated magna cum laude -my thesis got rewarded with a 16/20-, enjoyed my surprise party afterwards -my mom got me an amazing Chanel-necklace-, and tomorrow I will start working... I'm very excited!

Alexander McQueen's Future

A few months ago, PPR stated that it would continue the Alexander McQueen-brand, so immediately everyone started speculating who would be named as the label's next creative director, and even if he ever could be replaced at all...

Today, word got out about his follow up; Sarah Burton, assistant to the designer, will be in charge of the brand. She already was put to the test when she had to finish off the fall 2010-collection, right after the sudden death of Alexander Lee McQueen. Plus, she has the experience since she has been working for the label for 16 years.

Hopes are high. And I am quite curious on what the next McQueen collection will look like.

What do you think; Can one create a whole new collection, stay true to the legacy of the house and give it their own twist? Or will it be practically a copy of what McQueen was doing the last few seasons?

Whatever the outcome, I think she's facing a huge challenge...

I remember, when going shopping with my grandma when I was a little girl, she always visited the 1.2.3-store. But when my sister and I came across the stand of the shop at the Oona-press days, we were shocked! No longer is it a brand for 'the older ladies', cause we fell in love with some great pieces... we couldn't believe the transformation of the brand, but we are thrilled with our re-discovery!

As some of you know model  Eva Herzigova is the face of the brand but she designed some pieces too.
Eitherway, the 'non-model' collection of the brand surprised us as well

Here are some of our favorite pieces and I can't wait until they hit the stores...
I loved the 1910-1920 inspired dress (will look great with a chuncky belt!) and the jacket that reminded me of Burberry's aviator-collection!

Proenza Schouler

Remember the Proenza Schouler-dresses I loved so much? Martha Stewart -of all people- is teaching Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough how to tie-dye their own fabrics... No offence, Mrs. Stewart, but I prefer the real deal. 





Speaking of which, I'm jealous of Chloe Sevigny. Spring hasn't even really come through and already she's walking around in Proenza Schouler's next fall collection. 

Alexander McQueen

Today, the presentation of Alexander McQueen's last collection took place. I think these luxurious and magical designs look fit for Victorian queens and princesses. And it immediately reminded me of his Fall/Winter 2008-line. The prints, the folds, the richness of the dresses, I love it all. And that mix between the gold and red fabrics have a ancient Roman general feel too it, although I find the last white/light grey dresses more medieval.

Chanel

There already were rumors that Chanel's decor for the Fall/Winter-show of 2010 featured a gigantic iceberg. The polar bear-drawing on the invitations must have had something to do with it.

I just found the first video of the fashion show, and it looks -again- too cool, literally. I love the two-toned shoes vs. the all white outfits, and how the scenery and set blends in with the designs perfectly. And the puddle of water the models walked in... Did Lagerfeld find inspiration in global warming or the past winter cold? If I would have some of those looks hanging in my closet, I wouldn't mind if winter lasted a little longer...

Apparently, Mr. Lagerfeld only used faux-fur for this collection. So very polar bear-proof. 
The one thing that was real on the other hand, was the glacial 
centerpiece, real snow and ice imported from Sweden!

Balmain

And if we win the lottery tonight, a Balmain-dress will be the first thing I buy... 

I fell in love with the purple pieces. So very rococo. 

Italian Fashion

Have you seen Roberto Cavalli's latest collection? I must admit, his clothes don't always fit my personal style; too much leopard prints and golden accents. Oh, but not this time. I think the whole collection looks stunning. And there is already one item I absolutely want and need: That cool, thin, silk scarf would just look to cool with a pair of jeans and that grey shirt I bought a month ago...

Oh and speaking about stylish Italians; have you seen the Jak & Jil-pictures took in Anna Dello Russo's apartment/closet? Stunning! I am in complete awe, also since she seems like such a nice person. Really. This is her packing up for Fashion Week.

Milan Fashion Week

I am not a fan of brown. The color just doesn't suit me. But I did however, just fell in love with Gucci's latest collection. The girls look so tailored and elegant. Fits in perfectly with the brands heritage. I can't wait till these clothes hit the stores, I'm sure I will be crying my eyes out, since brown just does not suit me/my skin tone...

My parents have always adored Italian fashion labels, so when my sister and I were younger we would always wear some very cool brands. I remember wearing some Versus-items, the second line of Versace, that was cancelled earlier. But now it has made a comeback, thanks to Christopher Kane. And what a comeback. Although I'm not a little girl anymore, I still go crazy when I see ballet-inspired skirts. Oh and purple/blue/red/black do go with my skin tone...

Alexander McQueen

I was browsing the A la Mode-blog, since she commented on a blog post of mine, when I saw the pre-fall collection by Alexander McQueen. I had no idea the company had put the look book of this collection online, and that it went unnoticed. Or did I miss the articles in the press?

Despite the colorful dresses and pieces featured at the end of the look book, this collection has a very serious feel to it, I think...

Oh and The Style Crusader has put up a post on the tribute wall for the designer.

Such a nice gesture...

Proenza Schouler

The first thing I did this morning, even before I made myself breakfast, was watch last night's Proenza Schouler-fashion show online. I was looking forward to this one for days, and as always, the long wait was worth it.

This fall/winter 2010 collection started off with a school girl-look. I love those plissé-skirts. I love those colored furs. But then more and more electric blue and greens started to appear on stage. The prints had that same cool feel as the ones in the Spring/Summer 2010-show. A winter version, perhaps. Below you can see the items I want to have hanging in my closet. But the last look I posted here, is my absolute favorite. What a cool dress. It reminds me of the origami-dresses by Proenza Schouler, still the absolute winner collectionwise by the duo, in my opinion!

Alexander McQueen's Future

PPR has just confirmed to continue the Alexander McQueen brand!

The chairman Francois Henri-Pinault stated: “You understand, the Alexander McQueen trademark will live on”.

I wonder what will happen to his upcoming Fall/Winter 2010-collection, since apparently it wasn't finished yet. But more importantly, who will dare to take over the position as creative designer? 'Cause we all know, Lee Alexander McQueen can't be replaced...

Update:

The show will go on, on March 9th and 10th, as a private 'salon'-event. And sales have increased with 1400% last week.

Hoods

Move over Alexander Wang, I just fell in love with Thakoon's latest collection.

I especially love the hooded looks. -Remember the ones by Balenciaga earlier?-

(Although, the white look on 00.55 seconds, looks somewhat like Balenciaga's spring/summer 2010-collection, no?)

Burberry 3D

My second term has started at the University of Leuven, and I had just begun pondering on my Fashion/Film-thesis -what content to include or exclude, why the subject is relevant, setting up my research part...-, that sort of things, when I came across this Twitter-message by Business of Fashion:

BREAKING: Burberry to beam live 3D fashion show from London to NY, LA, Paris, Hong Kong, with local hosts like Colette and Tina Brown.

Apparently the British label is hosting 'the first ever truly global fashion show… 3D technology will bring our global audience into the London show space allowing them to see the colors and fabrics, to hear the music and to be a part of that moment when it all finally comes together'. And those lucky fashion VIPs will catch up on the whole atmosphere of the fashion show as well, since there will be a pre-show segment filled with behind the scenes action and red carpet moments.

This for sure will be a part of fashion history, and even better, this is great material for my thesis-chapter How fashion is influenced by film -or at least by a motion picture technique which recently has been causing a small riot in theaters.

Too bad us mortals just have to witness the whole thing via live.burberry.com in 2D. You can comment and review the fashion show in real time through your facebook or Twitter-account.
