Alexander McQueen at the Met

Practically once a week I nag my boyfriend that I want to go back to NYC. And this Alexander McQueen-exposition wasn't helping at all. But now apparently there's a limited edition-scarf to go with it? Come on, you're killing me here!

LOVE

I am most definitely aware of the fact that I'm not a bracelet-kind of person, although I've been wearing my Return to Tiffany's-one on a daily basis, but I fell in love with this jewel years ago and lately, the LOVE-ad campaign seems to be featured in every magazine that I come across, which makes me want the bracelet even more.

I'm crazy for the fact that the LOVE-bracelet needs to be un-cuffed using a tiny screwdriver and that it's so plain and minimalistic, yet timeless. But maybe it's too simple for Cartier'ish-amounts of money? Anyone any idea how much the white gold ones are? By the way, those bulky rings in the Panthère by Cartier-collection are pretty amazing as well. How I wish I wore rings...

PS: Still on my wish list ... totally different style, both in the same price range though ...

Proenza Schouler

Just as thrilled as I was when I saw these tie-dye shirts, just as disappointed I would be when I saw the following sentence: "We are unable to deliver to countries and territories outside the US at this time." Please, dear PS, hold one green/black/white item for me in a size S for me in the meantime...

Fashion's Night Out

How I wish I was back in NYC. Last year, we missed FNO by a day, but I did manage to get a hold of the shirt for my sister, which by the way I like more than the one of this year. Anyhow, anyone any idea on if any european cities are participating?

Fashion Books - Wishlist

Today is a gorgeous day, since the sun is shining brightly. 

Unfortunately, I'm still stuck inside studying film history; the studio system, Orson Welles, German expressionism, French Realism, Spanish Surrealism and Italian Realism... 

The reality is however that, although I'm very much interested in the subject, I would rather be out in the sun, enjoying a good book without worrying 'Is this going to be a question on the exam?'

A while back I said I wanted the book on Alexander McQueen. Well, I've found some new interesting items to add to my book wish list  -I made my boyfriend promise that when we'll buy our future house, one entire room needs to be decorated as a walk-in-closet and little library. 

This is what I'm planning to get when I head over to the States. 

1. That Alexander McQueen-book

2. Uncovering Fashion: Fashion Communications across the Media

SImply because it looks like a great book for any communication sciences-student. Plus, as I mentioned before, Fairchild-books are amazing! 

3. The End of Fashion: How Marketing Changed the Clothing Business Forever

Again, I'm very much interested in marketing. Sometimes it seems like people just believe that a person creates something, and then magically it appears in the stores. My internships have taught me otherwise. And since I'm not only fascinated by the garments designed by the fashion houses but also by its industry, I'm very excited to read this one. 

4. Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster

A few years ago, I wrote an essay for school on haute couture, ready-to-wear and mass-produced garments. I remember using an article on Dana Thomas' book, which focusses on accessible luxury ("an oxymoron" as she described it), mass-consumption and counterfeiting. 

5. House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour and Greed

I'm getting this one for my sister, since she's looking forward to the movie. Plus, my grandmother's niece worked for the family, so maybe she's featured in the book/movie as well. Maybe, during our monthly calls, we need to ask her if she's read it ... Furthermore, it apparently mentions Tom Ford's rise and Gucci being caught in the middle of PPR and LVMH.

Prêt-à-Portea

Normally, each year during the month of May and September, my boyfriend and I head to London for a little getaway and shopping spree. This month I'm too busy working for school and in September I will be working. And this while just now I've discovered that The Berkley hosts the cutest afternoon tea, called Prêt-à-Portea.

When I saw the pictures of their fashion designer inspired desserts and sweets, I wished our plane towards NYC would stop in Heathrow for a few hours. Check out their Anya Hindmarch-sponge cake bag and the Chanel-clog, too cute!

Prada Prints

If there is one color that describes my wardrobe perfectly it would be 'pitch black'. It's not that I don't like prints, I usually don't like them on me. But when I saw this special Prada collection, only one thing came to mind; where can I find the nearest Prada-store? I wish I could head to London or Milan, just to get me one of these fifties inspired dresses. But I'm stuck in Belgium for my thesis, and thus I'm probably doomed to remain without this must have, since there is no 'real' Prada-store in Belgium...

Too bad. I really had my heart set on red'ish dress in the back... and that yellow purse is great too!

Prada Print Collection

Excited: My sister and I, and thus Shark Attack, have been invited to a press event regarding the fall collections of some very cool brands. So tomorrow we head off to the great city of Antwerp. I'm so curious! 

Alexander McQueen

I just added a new item to my wish-list; Alexander McQueen: Genius of a Generation by Kirstin Knox.
Hopefully, they'll put the book on amazon.com pretty quickly, because I really want to read this. Too bad I'll already have handed in my thesis (which features the British designer) by then...

Yesterday my boyfriend finally got back from his 3 weeks tour in the USA with his band. Despite all of the lost luggage, he still had -in his carry-on- a copy of Vogue's April issue , which remembers Alexander McQueen... So'll have something to read later on this evening... 

Hermès

I don't know why, but I recently fell in love with the Hermès Collier de Chien-bracelet. And I'm not even a bracelet-kind of person. I did however wear such chunky, studded bracelets when I was younger, but I guess that subconsciously, I'm still not over that trend...

The black & zilver one for me, please... But then again, since the bracelet is so pricey, I'ld rather continue saving up for the new watch I've been lusting for for a while now... New watch >> a bracelet when you're not a bracelet-kind of person...

Edit: Hermès has created a paper DIY-version of the bracelet. Go to Hermès.com and visit/travel the 'world of Hermès' and download the pattern. Example. 

Sofia Coppola for Louis Vuitton

For years now, movie stars have been appearing in ad campaigns of famous fashion houses and by doing so, contributing to their and the brand's image. Another aspect which interests me for my fashion/film thesis, is when a celebrity takes on the role as a guest designer for a brand. And so, I'm pretty sure that I will include the collaboration between film director Sofia Coppola and Louis Vuitton, in my project.

I'm not a huge fan of Louis Vuitton's monogram bags, but I do however love the line Sofia Coppola designed for the french luxury brand. The small black clutch has been on my wishlist for a while now, and seeing the bag appear on the Jak & Jil blog today, makes me a bit jealous of the owner.

Oh and I am a bit shocked of that price tag by the way, since it is such a small bag. Maybe it will be better to just save up for classic watch, like the girl is wearing in the picture above? I'm guessing it's the Rolex Day-Date.

Tim Walker

Up until now, and since I saw his exposition in Dusseldorf, Michel Comte was one of my favorite (fashion) photographers. Now however, ever since we saw the skeleton featured in one of his pictures at 10 Corso Como, I've become more obsessed with Tim Walker's work.

I'm in love with the romantic touch in his pictures. And so, I've added a new book to my Wishlist: Tim Walker Pictures.
